Buckminster Fuller Dome at Art Chicago 2009

February 18, 2009

Art Chicago is pleased to announce that a historic Buckminster Fuller Dome will be on view at Art Chicago, May 1-4, 2009.

Entering The Merchandise Mart, Art Chicago attendees will encounter one of Buckminster Fuller’s renowned geodesic domes in the enormous South Lobby.  A perfect fit for its location alongside Art Chicago at The Merchandise Mart, a nationally renowned design center, this geodesic dome is the ultimate representation of Buckminster Fuller’s unparalleled influence on art, design and architecture.  This dome will also serve as a complement to the Museum of Contemporary Art’s concurrent exhibition Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe, March 14 - June 21, 2009.

The Dome will be prominently located in the Merchandise Mart South Lobby during the Art Chicago.  This project is presented for Art Chicago in coordination with NeoCon June 15-17, 2009.    The dome is courtesy of Max Protetch Gallery and will remain on view at the Merchandise Mart through the end of June.

Vitra
The Merchandise Mart and Vitra, a global leader in the design and manufacturing of contemporary home and commercial furnishings, are pleased to host a Vitra 'experience' in Chicago's own Fuller dome. Just as the thousands of visitors to the renowned Vitra campus in Germany are first greeted with the sight of Buckminster Fuller's 1954 geodesic dome, alongside iconic structures by Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry and Tadao Ando, Art Chicago attendees will have the opportunity to experience Vitra’s innovative furniture designs within a Fuller dome.
